Me and a couchsurfer, Meiliana, from Jakarta decided to meet up so she could show me a bit of what Jakarta had to offer. First we went to Kota Tua (old town) where they were selling everything from traditional instruments to kitchen supplies and boatequipment
This is an Anklung a traditional instrument in Indonesia, which I tried to play but it didn't work very well :)
The boatmuseum in Kota Tua
We also went to Chinatown and tried all different kind of stuff!
Buah lontar
Strange thing that is a little bit like coconut but more soft and inside it has a sweet liquid:
Cute little bicycle hiring:
One of all the different types of transportation you can take in Indonesia; bajaj
Kue ape, tastes like pancake with vanillaflavour
Kue Pancong, like a ricepudding with coconut and vanillaflavour:
In the middle of all streetfood I saw this and wondered what it was, it didn't seem to be anything eatable to me but it turned out that they were making sugar cane juice or sari tebu that it is called in Indonesia
A lot of candy!
Felt so sorry for this frogs that were alive but tied up and lying next to the already dead ones!
Cincau, some sort of jellything and syrup
Toge Goreng, fried beensprouts
Since we were in Chinatown we also made a visit in a chinesetemple, the first time for me
Made our way to Jalan Jaksa a backpacker area and decided to try a restaurant that I had read about in my lonely planet guide
Juices with superpowers it sounds like ;)
I said I would order a "slimmy shape juice" and perhaps it would make me lose a few kilos, I tried to asked what was in this juice but the ingredients were appearntly secret ;)
Had such a perfect fresh strawberryjuice that I ordered another one aswell
Meiliana, eating kambing(sheep) masala
Jakarta by night
The next day me and Neory that I met at my hostel decided to see Monas monument that was built as a symbol of the independence of Indonesia
Went up the building to have a view over Jakarta
